Shadow Text

This tutorial will show you how to make text that looks like it has a shadow in front of it.

Step 1

Click on the text tool or press T on your keyboard and add your text. To flip it upside down, go to Object > Transform > Reflect. Choose "Horizontal".

Go to Effect > Distort & Transform > Free Distort. Drag out the black dots in the two bottom corners so it looks like this:

Make the fill a black and white gradient by choosing black as the fill color and then dragging it over to the Gradient window. Do the same for white. If the gradient options aren't showing up, click on the small arrow in the top right and Show Options. Make sure the type of gradient is Linear and the angle is 90. Then click on the Transparency tab next to Gradient and make the opacity 50 or less.

Add your text again, and position it over the shadow. You should get something like this:
