Image Background Text

This tutorial will show you how to make text with an image background in Illustrator by making a clipping mask.

Step 1

Go to File > Place and choose the image you want inside your text. Make sure it's big enough for the text to cover it. I'm using this picture I took of colored pencils. If you want to use this picture too, click on the image to get the bigger size.

Step 2

Click on the text tool or press T on your keyboard. Add your text on top of the image. Highlight both the text and background by clicking the Selection Tool or pressing V on your keyboard. Click and drag your mouse over both the text and image to select them.

Go to Object > Clipping Mask > Make. Add a stroke to your text if you want, and you're done.
