Pixel Text
This tutorial will show you how to make pixel text. You'll need a small pixel font. If you don't have one, download Bangalore. It's one of my favorite pixel fonts and also the font used in this tutorial :)
Step 1
Make a new image with a background in a dark shade of the color you want your pixel text to be. Click on the text tool
or press T on your keyboard. Make sure in your tool options you choose Floating and not Vector, and add your text in a pixel font. It should look like this so far:
Step 2
Go to Selections > Modify > Expand and make the size 1.
Step 3
Press Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. You should see your pixel text with a transparent background. Click on the brush tool
or press B on your keyboard. Zoom in and draw some highlights in the corner of each letter with a light shade of the color you used. In the top left corner of each letter, draw one white pixel.
Step 4
Choose a color darker than your outline color. Draw along the bottom of your letters to make them stand out more.
Step 5
Zoom out and look at your pixel text. If it's hard to read, try making the colors contrast more. Here's what mine looks like:
